The Royal Film Commission – Jordan (RFC) organised a private screening of the film "Boomah," directed by Zaid Abu Hamdan, on Monday, June 1, at the RFC amphitheater.

This cinematic event comes under the patronage of HRH Prince Ali Bin Al Hussein, Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the RFC. Princess Jalila bint Ali and Prince Abdullah bin Ali attended the screening, along with members of the RFC Board of Commissioners and staff, the film director and producer, several cast and crew members, and a number of guests, journalists, and media representatives.

The film was shot entirely in Jordan during a particularly challenging period for the region. The team successfully presented a realistic portrayal of Jordanian society, addressing human issues that transcend geographical boundaries and resonate with a global audience. It is worth noting that the film received support from the Jordan Film Fund under the Production Grants for Feature Narrative Films programme and also received a cash rebate from the RFC.

Commenting on the occasion, Mohannad Al-Bakri, Director General of the Royal Film Commission, said: “We are proud to celebrate Boomah, a powerful Jordanian production that reflects the depth, talent, and resilience of our local film industry. The film’s journey, from being shot entirely in Jordan to its upcoming world premiere at the Shanghai International Film Festival, is a testament to the strength of Jordanian storytelling and its ability to speak to audiences far beyond our borders.”

Written and directed by Zaid Abu Hamdan, whose celebrated debut feature “Daughters of Abdulrahman” became one of Jordan’s most acclaimed recent films, “Boomah” continues his exploration of characters living on the fringes of society.

“Boomah was born from very local wounds, but its heart is universal: the need to belong, the pain of being unseen, and what happens when survival and pain become a language,” said director Zaid Abu Hamdan. “I was inspired by stories of real women in Jordan who were feared, judged, and misunderstood, but rarely truly seen. To have the film meet the world for the first time at the Shanghai International Film Festival is a profound honor."

The film was produced by Front Row Productions, the production arm of Front Row Filmed Entertainment, in collaboration with Bounce Productions. The film received support from the Red Sea Fund. Front Row Filmed Entertainment holds global rights to the film and will distribute “Boomah” across the region in Q4 of this year.

Set in the forgotten corners of Jordan, BOOMAH follows a street enforcer sitting at the very bottom of the food chain. Living off petty extortion, intimidation and favours, she is part of an informal street economy where power circulates through fear and survival often means becoming useful to a corrupt system that will never fully let you in. Feared by many and loved by few, Boomah lives by the rules of the street until two vulnerable children unexpectedly force her to confront the fractured relationship she has with family, belonging and motherhood.

As a more organized criminal force begins reshaping the underground economy around her, Boomah finds herself fighting not only for survival, but for the chance to claim space in a world that has always treated people like her as disposable.

Leading the film is award-winning actress Rakeen Saad, known for her acclaimed performances in “Seeking Haven for Mr. Rambo”, which premiered at the Venice International Film Festival, alongside Majd Eid, Nabil Al Raee, Joanna Arida, and Farah Bsieso.

It was recently announced that the film will celebrate its world premiere at this year’s Shanghai International Film Festival, which will be held from June 12 to 21, 2026. The festival has increasingly become an important platform for Arab cinema’s engagement with Asian audiences, having previously showcased acclaimed regional titles including “Capernaum” and “The Burdened”.

It is worth mentioning that the RFC provides logistical and production services for foreign, Arab and Jordanian films and series filmed in the kingdom.
