About Mosaic Post-Production Lab
Mosaic Post-Production Lab is a regional initiative by the Royal Film Commission – Jordan (RFC) that supports Arab filmmakers in shaping and finishing their feature-length fiction, documentary, or hybrid films. Focused on story-driven, editing-centered post-production, the Lab helps directors and editors bring their creative vision to its full potential.
Named after the intricate art of assembling small, distinct pieces into a unified whole, Mosaic offers a space to reflect, revise, and reconnect with the heart of the story, where creative intention meets cinematic form. This lab isn't just about completing a film; it's about elevating its impact.
Participants leave with not only a stronger cut but also sharper audience engagement tools, clearer festival strategies, and insight from top industry advisors, all tailored to their film’s goals.
The program is structured into two complementary phases, combining personalized consultations, peer exchange, and curated industry exposure. It focuses on creative storytelling through editing, supporting directors and editors in refining their vision, testing audience engagement, and preparing their films for a wide audience.
Program Overview
Phase 1: Online Consultancy
During this three-month virtual phase, selected teams collaborate with international and regional experts in editing, sound, and storytelling. The focus is on refining structure, addressing creative challenges, and preparing the film for targeted audience feedback.
Core elements include:
- Tailored one-on-one consultations with editing, sound, and story consultants
- Structural and creative guidance for directors and editors
- Strategic preparation for the Work-in-Progress (WIP) screenings
Phase 2: In-Person Lab in Jordan
The second phase is a six-day in-person lab in Jordan, anchored around the Work-in-Progress screenings. Films are shown to curated focus groups, followed by moderated Q&A sessions and detailed audience surveys, offering essential feedback before final delivery.
The in-person phase includes:
- Mandatory Work-in-Progress (WIP) screenings to curated focus groups
- Moderated Q&A sessions and detailed audience feedback surveys
- Masterclasses tailored to project needs (sound, color, music, emerging technologies)
- One-on-one consultations with mentors and industry experts
- Group sessions and peer feedback opportunities
- Follow-up consultations to integrate audience feedback into final cuts
Who Is It For?
Mosaic is open to Arab-led, feature-length fiction, documentary, and hybrid films that are currently in post-production. While editors may be of any nationality, the film's director or producer must be of Arab nationality or origin. The Lab welcomes both early-career and more experienced filmmakers. What matters most is the creative potential of the film and its readiness to benefit from feedback.
By offering a collaborative and craft-focused space, Mosaic helps filmmakers sharpen their storytelling, both creatively and professionally. The Lab encourages choices, thoughtful reflection, and careful preparation for distribution and festivals.
